Punjab Launches Merit Scholarship Card for IT Students

The government of Punjab has rolled out a new “Merit-Based Scholarship Card” under the Hunarmand Punjab Program, aimed at providing talented and motivated students across the province, and beyond, with free IT training along with essential digital resources. 

What’s included in the scholarship card

Recipients of the scholarship card will receive more than just training. The program offers a comprehensive package intended to enable participation in the digital economy. Key benefits include: 100% free IT courses; laptops for online learning; solar panels to mitigate electricity challenges; and even e-bikes to aid mobility for students commuting to training centers. 

The IT training covers a broad range of high-demand, modern digital skills. These may include programming and web development, digital marketing, freelancing skills, and introductory knowledge in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence. 

The support package also includes learning materials and tools to help students complete their training, and where relevant, financial aid or stipend support under associated educational-finance or upskilling components. 

Eligibility criteria and who can apply

The scheme is open to Pakistani students and youth, especially from Punjab but also including other provinces under eligible quota allocations. 

Key criteria include: valid CNIC or B-form, enrollment in approved IT or vocational courses under the Hunarmand Program, and meeting merit-based selection standards. There is also a typical age range requirement — though exact age limits can vary depending on the course or sub-program. 

Applicants must not already be benefiting from other government-funded scholarship or skill-development programs, ensuring fairness and proper resource allocation.

Interested candidates should visit the official website of the Hunarmand Punjab Program to register and apply for the scholarship card. The application involves filling out personal and academic details, uploading required documents (like CNIC/B-form and relevant certificates), and selecting the desired IT or vocational course. 

Selection is strictly merit-based: students who demonstrate academic performance, commitment, and relevant interest in technical/digital training are given priority. 

Students from both urban and rural areas are eligible, offering an inclusive opportunity irrespective of socio-economic background or geographic location.

Additionally, reaching students in remote or underserved areas, where connectivity or infrastructural challenges persist,  may require additional logistical support to ensure these youths can fully benefit from the training.

Finally, once trained and equipped, students will need ongoing support: access to mentors, resources for freelancing or job placement, and possibly follow-up courses, so that the skills gained lead to real, sustainable livelihoods.
