E-visas are now available for Pakistani visitors to the UK.

Islamabad: In a move that promises to make travel smoother for thousands of Pakistanis each year, the UK Visas and Immigration has introduced a new electronic visa system for Pakistani nationals traveling to the United Kingdom. 

The development marks a significant shift from the long-standing practice of placing visa stickers inside passports and signals the British government’s broader transition toward a fully digital immigration system.

For many Pakistanis who have navigated the often stressful visa process in the past, the announcement feels like a welcome change. No more waiting anxiously for passports to be returned with a sticker inside. 

No more additional trips just to collect documents. Instead, visa approvals will now be issued electronically and linked directly to the applicant’s online immigration account.

A Shift From Paper to Digital

Until now, Pakistani travelers granted UK visas would receive a physical vignette sticker placed inside their passports. While familiar, the process required applicants to submit their passports and later return to the visa application center for collection.

Under the new system, applicants will still complete their visa forms online and attend an appointment to provide biometric information, including fingerprints and photographs. 

However, once that step is complete, they will not have to surrender their passports for visa stamping. If approved, their visa status will be issued digitally and accessible through an online account.

Officials say there is no change to visa fees, eligibility criteria, or processing times. The difference lies in how the visa is issued and verified.

How the E Visa Works

After submitting an application and completing biometrics, successful applicants will receive confirmation of their visa through email. Their immigration status will be stored electronically, and travelers will be able to access it through a secure online portal managed by UK Visas and Immigration.

A key feature of the new system is the share code. Travelers can generate a temporary digital code to prove their immigration status to airlines, border officials, employers, or educational institutions. Instead of flipping through passport pages to check for a sticker, officials can verify status online.

This digital format reduces the risk of lost or damaged documents and ensures that visa information can be updated more efficiently when necessary.

Part of a Bigger Modernisation Plan

The introduction of E-visas for Pakistani travelers is part of the United Kingdom’s wider plan to modernize its borders. In recent years, British authorities have steadily moved toward digital immigration records, replacing physical documents with secure online systems.
