Visa & Policy Updates

Undergraduate Applications from Pakistan Suspended

In a significant policy update, the University of Wolverhampton has announced that it will no longer accept undergraduate applications from applicants domiciled in Bangladesh and Pakistan for all intakes beginning January 2026

The decision, effective immediately, marks a major shift in the university’s admissions approach for these regions.

University Cites Rising Concerns Over Visa Misuse

According to the institution, the change comes in response to a notable rise in cases involving the misuse of the UK Student Route visa among applicants from the two affected countries.

The university emphasised that while these concerns do not represent every applicant, the institution must uphold the integrity of the visa system to ensure full compliance with UK Home Office regulations.

The university stressed that maintaining strong visa governance is a central part of its responsibilities.

The recent pattern of non-compliance prompted leadership to adopt what they described as a “precautionary measure” until confidence is restored in the security of the application and visa process for the affected regions.

Impact on Current and Future Applicants

Effective immediately, partners and representatives have been requested not to submit any new undergraduate applications for applicants domiciled in Bangladesh or Pakistan.

Additionally, the University of Wolverhampton has advised that any undergraduate applications already submitted should be withdrawn, and that applicants should explore alternative UK institutions.

The announcement has prompted concern among students preparing for the 2026 academic cycle, many of whom were considering Wolverhampton as a study destination.

Agencies and education advisers are now working to guide affected applicants toward other universities still accepting submissions.

Postgraduate Applications Remain Unaffected

Despite the restrictions at the undergraduate level, the university clarified that postgraduate applications from Bangladesh and Pakistan remain open and are not impacted by the new policy at this time.

This distinction means that students intending to pursue master’s degrees, postgraduate diplomas, or other advanced qualifications may continue their applications as normal.

Commitment to Compliance and Future Stability

The University expressed appreciation for its partners' cooperation and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high compliance standards.

While the measure is currently in place without a specified end date, the institution indicated that it will continue to review the situation. Future decisions will depend on improvements in compliance levels and reduced risk in the visa application process for these regions.

For now, the announcement serves as a significant update for both students and recruitment partners, shaping the landscape of undergraduate admissions for the 2026 academic year and beyond.
