Sindh’s newly launched facial recognition attendance system for government school employees faced technical difficulties on the first day of its pilot rollout.
The system, introduced to modernize attendance monitoring in public schools, reportedly experienced server and account-related issues that prevented some employees from recording their attendance digitally.
As a result, several teaching and non-teaching staff members had to return to the traditional manual attendance system.
The new platform is called the Facial Recognition Attendance Monitoring and Evaluation System (FRAMES). The Sindh government has initially introduced the system on a pilot basis across six districts.
The selected districts include Karachi East, Hyderabad, Naushahro Feroze, Jacobabad, Ghotki, and Umerkot. Around 49,565 teaching and non-teaching employees working in government schools are covered under the pilot project.
The initiative is designed to replace conventional attendance methods with a more transparent and technology-based monitoring system.
On the first day of implementation, some school employees reportedly experienced difficulties while using the FRAMES mobile application.
Among the major problems were server-related errors and issues where schools were not properly assigned to employees' accounts. In some cases, staff members made repeated attempts to record their attendance but were unsuccessful.
Due to these technical problems, affected schools had to temporarily rely on paper-based attendance.

Under the new system, government school employees are required to record their attendance twice, once when they arrive at school and again when they leave.
The application uses facial recognition technology to verify the identity of each employee while recording their attendance time. The system is intended to help authorities monitor staff punctuality and absenteeism more effectively.
Another important feature is that FRAMES has been designed to function even without an active internet connection.
Employees can also use the application to submit leave requests and view or download their monthly attendance records.
The initial technical difficulties are expected to be evaluated during the pilot phase before the system is implemented on a larger scale.
Authorities are expected to assess the performance of FRAMES, address technical shortcomings and improve the user experience based on feedback from participating schools.
If the pilot produces satisfactory results after these issues are resolved, the Sindh facial recognition attendance system is expected to be gradually expanded to government schools across the province.
The initiative represents Sindh’s broader effort to digitize school administration and improve transparency in employee attendance monitoring.
