Pakistan has recorded a notable presence in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027, with 108 universities from the country included in the latest global assessment.
The 2027 rankings cover 2,297 universities across 118 countries and territories, providing a broad comparison of higher education institutions based on teaching, research, international outlook and other performance indicators.

Not all 108 Pakistani universities received a numerical ranking or ranking band.
Several institutions have been listed under “Reporter” status. This means that the university submitted data to Times Higher Education but did not meet all the eligibility requirements needed to receive an official global ranking.
Eligibility can depend on factors such as research output, undergraduate teaching activities and the distribution of research across different subject areas.
Therefore, Reporter status should not be interpreted as a specific ranking position.
Times Higher Education assesses universities through 17 performance indicators divided into five major areas.
Research Quality carries the highest weighting at 30 percent, followed closely by Teaching at 29.5 percent and Research Environment at 29 percent.
International Outlook contributes 7.5 percent, while Industry-related performance accounts for the remaining 4 percent.
These indicators examine factors such as research influence, teaching reputation, student-to-staff ratios, international collaboration, research productivity and university-industry connections.
Globally, the University of Oxford retained the top position for the 11th consecutive year.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology remained second, while Princeton University and Stanford University shared third place.
For Pakistan, the inclusion of 108 institutions gives universities greater visibility in a ranking system that covers thousands of institutions worldwide and highlights areas where Pakistani higher education is competing internationally.
