Edge Hill University is a campus-based public university in Ormskirk, Lancashire, England. It was founded in 1885 as Edge Hill Institution, the country’s first non-denominational teacher training college for women, before admitting its first male students in 1959.

Edge Hill was given Taught Degree Awarding Powers by the Privy Council in 2005, and it became Edge Hill University on May 18, 2006.
The institution’s great achievement in attaining its objective is recognised by a variety of honours and top rankings for teaching, student experience, accommodation, and more. Edge Hill has achieved Gold status in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), the government’s assessment of excellence in teaching quality, learning environment, and student results. The University is also one of the handful to have received the prestigious UK University of the Year accolade from Times Higher Education (2014/15).

It has historical ties to the suffragette movement and conducts an annual suffragette conference, with the university’s colours of gold, green, and heliotrope (purple) symbolising this. It is still well-known for its high-quality teacher education programmes. Biology, business (at Edge Hill Business School), computer science, English, history and creative writing, geography, law and criminology, media, performing arts, psychology, social sciences, and sport and physical activity are among the 11 faculties.
The University comprises three faculties that educate at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels: Arts and Sciences, Education, and Health and Social Care.
Edge Hill offers a specialised foreign education centre that may assist with visas, jobs, and housing while at the University. For new arrivals, there is a meet & greet service from Manchester and Liverpool airports, followed by University orientation.
Once enrolled at the University, students can participate in the Global Friends programme, which connects current foreign students with new students to help them adjust to university life.
Pre-sessional English courses, as well as foreign foundation programmes, are available to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
More over half of Edge Hill University’s research was classified as “world-leading” or “internationally excellent” in the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021.
International students are guaranteed a place in the residential halls. Because all Edge Hill housing is on one site, all study and recreational facilities are nearby. There are five housing sections with a total capacity of around 1,700 students. More over two-thirds of the rooms have en suite bathrooms, and 300 of them are catered.
The Accommodation Team can assist students in locating private housing near the main campus. Ormskirk offers several shared houses and a free bus service, and Liverpool is only a half-hour train ride away.
Edge Hill University is located on a 160-acre (650,000-m2) campus near Ormskirk, West Lancashire’s administrative centre. It is about halfway between Liverpool and Preston, the county town.

The University used to be situated at the Woodlands campus in Chorley, Lancashire, and provided continuing professional development programmes as well as part-time education. However, operations have since been re-centralized to the main University campus.
The majority of the University’s subjects and departments are housed in specialist buildings built since the 1990s: the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Health and Social Care, the Business School, the BioSciences, the GeoSciences, the Creative Edge (Media and Social Sciences), the Performing Arts, the Wilson Centre (Sport and Physical Activity), and Psychology. Sir Robin Saxby, an entrepreneur, founded the Tech Hub in 2016.
The university also has a site in Manchester City Centre, mostly for medical science studies, at the St. James Buildings.

In 2023, the Edge Hill University is offering International Foundation Scholarship, This £3,000 scholarship will be given based on academic excellence and will cover the tuition expenses for the international foundation course. All students who successfully complete the international foundation course and continue to a full undergraduate degree will be awarded a £3,000 grant towards their first year of undergraduate tuition expenses.
