Germany Announces Fully Funded PhD Scholarship for Pakistani Students

Pakistani students planning to pursue doctoral studies in Europe have a new opportunity through the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation Scholarship Programme for International Doctoral Students in Germany. 

Applications are open for the 2027 funding cycle, giving eligible international researchers the chance to complete a fully funded PhD at a state or state-recognised German university.

The scholarship is listed in the DAAD scholarship database and is designed for high-achieving doctoral candidates from different academic disciplines. 

Medical disciplines are excluded from the programme. Applicants must have admission to a doctoral programme and academic supervision from a university lecturer in Germany.

Funding and Scholarship Benefits

Selected international PhD candidates receive a monthly base scholarship of €1,400. In addition, scholars receive a €100 monthly mobility allowance and a further €20 lump-sum benefit, bringing the regular monthly financial support to €1,520. 

The funding can continue for up to three years, depending on the doctoral programme and the candidate’s circumstances.

The financial package is intended to help researchers cover living, mobility and research-related expenses while completing their PhD in Germany. 

The programme provides Pakistani students with an opportunity to focus more closely on academic research without relying entirely on personal funding.

Eligibility Requirements for Pakistani Applicants

Candidates are expected to have a very good academic record and a promising doctoral research project. They must be admitted to a state or state-recognised higher education institution and have supervision from a university lecturer in Germany.

Applicants must also demonstrate social or community engagement aligned with the values of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation. German language proficiency at B2 level is required, even when the doctoral dissertation is being written in English.

Required application documents generally include academic certificates and transcripts, proof of doctoral admission, confirmation of academic supervision, a curriculum vitae, research or doctoral project documents, evidence of social engagement, and proof of German language proficiency.

Application Deadline

The application deadline for the current scholarship round is October 1, 2026, at 11:59 pm German time. Candidates should prepare and submit their documents through the official application portal before the deadline.
