France Launches Exclusive Fellowship for American Students

In a bold move to deepen cultural and scientific ties with the United States, France has announced the launch of a brand-new fellowship program designed exclusively for American students. 

The initiative, called the Lafayette Fellowship, will sponsor thirty young Americans each year to pursue a one-year master’s degree at some of France’s most prestigious universities.

The program is named in honor of the Marquis de Lafayette, the French general and statesman who played a decisive role in America’s fight for independence. 

By reviving this historical bond through education, France hopes to mark a new chapter in U.S.–French relations, particularly as the world approaches the 250th anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence in 2026.

A Fellowship with Global Vision

The fellowship is open to U.S. citizens under the age of 27 who already hold a bachelor’s degree. Candidates can apply to a wide range of fields, from science and technology to the social sciences, humanities, and arts. Programs are available in both French and English, making the opportunity accessible to students with varying levels of language ability.

Recipients of the fellowship will receive:

• Full tuition coverage for their first year of study
• A monthly stipend of €1,500 to cover living costs
• Round-trip airfare between the U.S. and France
• Waivers for student visa and administrative fees

Participating universities are spread across eight major French cities, including Paris, Lyon, Bordeaux, Grenoble, Strasbourg, Toulouse, Marseille, and Nice.
